Types Of Radiology Tech

A friend of mine is going to school to become a radiology technician.  She was talking the other day about the different types of radiology tech career that she can be trained to do.  As a radiographer she can specialize in mamography, computed tomography (CT scans) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

She can also work as a sonograper doing sonograms or as a nuclear medicine tech.  She said that the reason that she decided to go to school to work as a radiology tech is because she believes that there is a strong job market and that this is a field that is recession proof.  Due to the current state of the economy she has not been able to find work so going back to school to study for a good job just makes good sense.

Getting The Necessary Qualifications

In order to be qualified for different types of radiology tech jobs you need to be trained for them.  My friend has told me that the program is fairly intense and that she does quite a bit of studying.  She has been spending time in class and in clinic learning about diagnostic radiography, sonography, fluoroscopy, just to name a few areas.

The clinics have been the most interesting to her and it is their that she is able to work on her patient care skills and really get to see the x-rays of patients.  That is so informative to see the before scans and x-rays.  From there they can monitor the progress of the patient and see how the doctor decides to proceed with their care.

After she began to talk about the patients that she had met and worked with I could tell that she really loved what she was studying and that she understood the value of being a radiology tech.  Regardless of the types of radiology tech jobs that were out there she believed that her job was going to be an important one and that she was helping to play a role in saving lives.

I envied her passion for her studies and I seriously began to consider researching this field and finding out more about the types of radiology tech jobs that were out there.  Maybe I could find my passion to and have a job that made me feel like I was helping people just because I am there when they need me to be.
